When David Will wakes up on the morning of his 25th birthday next Thursday, he may still be scratching his head about what happened in ‘s-Hertogenbosch this afternoon. Although he is well-known on his national circuit in Germany, and contributed to his country’s victories in the FEI Nations Cup™ at Linz, Austria in 2011 and at Wellington, Florida last year, not even he could have expected to leave the elite of the sport floundering in his wake as he galloped to victory in the last qualifying leg of the Rolex FEI World Cup™ Jumping 2012/2013 Western European League series today.

During the closing press conference of the 2013 edition of Indoor Brabant the show president Gerrit-Jan Swinkels had a surprising announcement. “The organizing committee of Indoor Brabant is very proud to announce that Anky van Grunsven will attend the next meeting of the Indoor Brabant committee as a committee member. Anky recently indicated that, besides her sportive ambitions, she now has more time for fun things and that she considers being a member of our committee as such.

Defending double-champions, Adelinde Cornelissen and Jerich Parzival, won the last leg of the Reem Acra FEI World Cup™ Dressage Western European League 2012/2013 on home ground at the Brabanthallen in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands this afternoon. But Dutch colleague, Edward Gal, put them under intense pressure with a brilliant performance from Glock’s Undercover that brought the crowd to their feet.

Emotions ran high in the Brabanthallen when the official retirement ceremony for Anky van Grunsven’s 19 year old Hannoverian, Salinero, took place. The Dutch rider enjoyed enormous success with this horse whose career might well have been overshadowed by the memory of his revered predecessor,

After this afternoon’s last qualifier in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, Indoor Brabant, the following riders from the Western European League have qualified for the Reem Acra FEI World Cup Dressage Final in Gothenburg, 24-28 April:

After Edward Gal and Adelinde Cornelissen finished their Grand Prix test for the Reem Acra FEI World Cup Dressage it was hard to determine the winner of this competition. Finally three judges placed Cornelissen and Jerich Parzival first and two judges in the runner-up position. Gal and Glock’s Undercover the placing was the other way around, which gave Adelinde the victory.

Edward Gal and Interfloor Next One (by Jazz) won the CDI4* Grand Prix/Brabanthallen Prize on Thursday evening. The KNHS Indoor Big Tour Champions received a score of 72.57 per cent for their test. Runners-up were Danielle Heijkoop and Siro (by Gribaldi) with 71.53 per cent.

On Thursday evening the public enjoyed the wonderful farewell show of Salinero. The 19-year-old dressage legend is still going strong and still knows how to move the public together with his rider Anky.

Olympic champion Steve Guerdat (Switzerland) has informed the organisation that he will do everything in his power to travel to Indoor Brabant. Guerdat recently fractured his shinbone during the World Cup qualifier in Bordeaux when a horse hit him during the warm-up.

The organisation of Indoor Brabant is looking for Salinero ‘Look-a-Likes’ for the Farewell program on Thursday evening. All Salinero fans who have a pony that looks like Salinero have a chance to be part of it. Entries can be made till 15 February and after that date the organization will make a selection who will be invited to Anky’s stables for the definite selection.
Dressage legend Salinero will have his farewell during Indoor Brabant which will be held from 14 till 17 March in the Brabanthallen in ‘s-Hertogenbosch. The famous pianist Wibi Soerjadi will be present during the farewell show on Thursday evening and on Saturday afternoon to accompany Salinero. Soerjadi composed among others the music for Salinero and Anky’s freestyle “Dance of Devotion” which had its debut on 18 December 2007 in London and with which the pair won the World Cup Final and the gold Olympic medal in 2008.

Nine of the Longines Rankings top 10 have already opted for a starting place at the international top event Indoor Brabant (14-17 March) in the Brabantallen in ‘s-Hertogenbosch. Indoor Brabant garantuees top level sport for four days.
